Schubert Heights Fire Victim Relief

Donation protected
On Saturday, March 31st a fire occurred at Schubert Heights apartments on the Idaho State University Pocatello campus.

Schubert Heights Fire

The 51-unit complex was at capacity with over 70 students when the fire started accidentally around 6:30 p.m. in a fourth-floor unit when food was left cooking on an active range for an extended period of time. The fire spread from the first unit and into others.

Though the fire department extinguished most of the fire within an hour of the fire starting, smoke from the flames caused extensive damage to most of building and some of the fire systems caused water damage to other areas of the building.

Some of these students had renters insurance so much of their stuff is covered. However, others did not have this coverage and have lost many of their items, some irreplaceable.

Since the fire, the American Red Cross is supporting students with client assistance funds, hygiene items and medication replacement. The Red Cross also has disaster mental health volunteers on standby if needed.

Schubert Heights to remain closed for rest of semester following Saturday fire

Although this is a wonderful service that is greatly appreciated, we can provide additional relief to these students.

The estimated goal for each student is $1,000 dollars, to replace electronics, clothes, and other necessary items.  All funds raised will be distributed directly to the students by Univeristy Housing. When the funds are withdrawn a public record  will be sent showing how much is being given to the Univeristy Housing, and a plan for distribution will be provided.

The sooner these funds arrive, the better we can help these students trying to finish their semester. Please consider helping out these students.

I am a a full-time staff member at Idaho State University in the College of Science & Engineering. I am reside in Pocatello, Idaho and work on the same campus as where this fire occured. Some of the individuals affected by this fire are students and interns in my college.
