My name is Isiah Maxey I'm trying to raise money to attend a music education conference this summer in Xi'an, China. I am a high school chorus teacher who is completing my 1.5 year of teaching in Orange County Public Schools. I currently work at Lake Nona High School where I teach 300+ students every single day. I am a graduate of The Florida State University.
This summer I was granted an awesome opportunity to travel with a chorus I'm a member of, Festival Singers of Florida, to fly to Xi'an and Beijing to attend a 7 day Choral Festival and actually sing on the Great Wall of China! The group is made up of mainly music teachers from around the state. Some of us are driving from Miami and Pensacola to perform a 1 hour concert, and then drive back home. My hope is to further my appreciation for the world around me through the wonderful common language of music. The only issue is I'm currently living off of a teacher's salary, so here's where the GoFundMe comes in. Everything for this trip has been paid for by the organization running the Chinese Music Education Conference. The only thing we've been asked to cover is our travel expenses. A flight to Xi'an, China ranges anywhere from $1,200 to $1,500. I need to be able to purchase this flight no later than June 30th to still attend the conference. So, I really need your help!
I'm not used to asking others for money, but I don't want to let this opportunity go by without trying. Opportunites like this will only help me shape the lives of the students I teach everyday and it would mean the world to me if you could support me at all!
