Isabel's Cornea Transplant
Don protégé
Hi,
My name is Karla Zuniga and I'm fundraising money for my sister Isabels Cornea transplant. She has been diagnosed with severe Keratoconus. Keratoconus is an eye disease that causes increased blurriness, shortsightedness in vision, light sensitivity, halos and ghosting around light sources. Dramatic corneal distortion, substantial corneal scarring and thinning often occur. The clear tissue of Isabel's eye has been stretched so thin, that the only treatment she has left to save her eyesight, is a cornea transplant.
To better understand Keratoconus see the picture below:
(The left side is a normal eye, Isabel's eye bulges like the right side)
This is what Isabel's eye looks like as of today 02/14/2022:
Isabel's vision has been impacted so severely that she can longer do everyday tasks. She can't drive at night, it's extremely difficult for her to read, has no depth perception which makes it hard for her to maneuver safely. Isabel has severe light sensitivity making it difficult for her to go along her day. I worry that if Isabel doesn't receive her surgery, in the near future, her eye will become too thin for the operation. Isabel would be getting her transplant at Georgia Eye Institute in Savannah. The only way to have the surgery secured is to pay up front. I want to stress the urgency in Isabel receiving this transplant as soon as possible. Her chance of regaining her eyesight is extremely time sensitive hence the reason why we are reaching out to our community, family and friends.
Little background:
Isabel is a 21-year-old independent beautiful soul. She's always been a teacher's pet and aimed high in educational achievements. She has completed her Associated degree but based on her disability it's difficult for her to achieve her personal goals. Before the Keratoconus progressed, Isabel enjoyed reading and drawing. Her career goal was to become a concept artist. When she was around 7 years old, Isabel created her own characters, and stories. She would spend hours writing, drawing, creating her own world. This world became real once she started volunteering in middle school and reading her books to the elementary kids (South Tamarind Elementary). Isabel now has a webpage of her art but it's difficult to continue her story with the limited amount of sight. She tries to see the positivity in life, and I'd like to see her chase her dreams and achieve them. Isabel enjoys volunteering, pets, and any good puns.
I'm reaching out for help within our community to give a young, soulful, dreamer, a real opportunity to start/change her life. Please help with whatever you can or share this GofundMe and help me restore Isabel's eyesight.
From my family to yours:
