Isaac Wants to Stand Up Straight

Isaac, a 12-year-old boy in Thailand, was born with severe scoliosis. He was orphaned at a young age and his relatives lived in a rural mountain village and didn't have access to a hospital to treat him. His family moved to a commmunity just outside of Chiang Mai City when he was about 7 years old, which is where Jojo's Sanctuary staff met him a few years later. They took Isaac and his family to get a medical assessment and the doctor determined Isaac needed intensive corrective spinal surgery in order to have a normal life. Due to Covid lockdowns and costs, the needed surgery was postponed, and during this time, his spinal curvature has become significantly pronounced.
 
Jojo’s Sanctuary (www.jojosthailand.org) started in 2016 providing child protection workshops for at-risk children and youth in Chiang Mai Province. The organization has grown as it has provided support and education for youth and families at higher risk of abuse or dropping out of school. Isaac and his family were members of Building Family Dreams, a family strengthening program for low-income families. We at Covenant Presbyterian Church (www.prosserpres.org) have supported JoJo’s Sanctuary for many years. They are working on getting Isaac insurance at the hospital, and this plus what the family can provide will cover some of the costs, but $5500 is still needed.
