IRONMAN World Championship - Nice, France

I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in August 2018. In just a matter of three weeks, I was unable to see, walk, or even control my bladder. I woke up multiple times having wet the bed. Doctors told me that I could be permanently wheelchair bound within a few years. After the first few doses of intravenous steroids and chemotherapy I began to gain function of my legs again. I became purposed to keep moving and to do whatever I could to defy the odds.

I had always dreamed of competing in an IRONMAN race, but never truly believed I had the ability to do it. Even though it doesn’t make sense, my MS diagnosis set fire to a newfound belief in myself. By God’s grace and my commitment to nutrition and fitness, I slowly began making headway.

On October 10, 2020, with nothing to lose - I gave everything my body had to give and decided to move forward with the IRONMAN VR Series Celebrate Kona full-distance IRONMAN race. In about 16 hours and 35 minutes (but who’s counting?) I was able to finish the race.

That experience has left me hungry for more. Multiple sclerosis is a very unpredictable disease. I’m always just a day away from never being able to walk or see again. As long as my body is able - I want to keep moving and see what my body is capable of. That determination has led me to completing two more full distance IRONMAN races since my first virtual one (IRONMAN Maryland 2021 & IRONMAN Wisconsin 2022).

My dream to compete at the global scale is finally coming true. I just learned that I have been invited to compete as 1 of the 5 PC (Physically Challenged) athletes at this year's IRONMAN World Championship in Nice, France! This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that I'm humbled and honored to pursue.

Unfortunately, the invitation to participate does not include any financial benefits. Everything from the registration, airplane tickets, lodging, and meals will all be out of pocket. Any contributions will be immensely appreciated. This is finally my chance to share my story on a global scale and to show others what God is doing through my weaknesses!
