iPads for Palliative Care in Nursing Homes

With cocooning, social isolation is hitting our older citizens hardest. Elderly nursing home residents, many of whom are frail, ill, and some who may be dying, have now lost contact from family and loved ones, because of essential visiting restrictions with the Coronavirus pandemic. Of all of us, it's those in nursing homes who are likely to have to live with this isolation for the longest period of time.
We first set up an initiative to supply iPads and tablets to palliative care teams in hospitals and hospices around the country. Thanks to the incredible generosity of donors, with over 100 new and second-hand devices donated, we were able to distribute devices to palliative care teams nationwide.
Now we want to do the same for all 440 nursing homes in Ireland, so that the elderly residents can be helped video-link to their families and loved ones. They may be isolated, but they shouldn't have to feel alone.

Dr Eoin Tiernan is a consultant in palliative medicine, and has set up this campaign with his wife and 5 children.
