Miracle Maija

On Thursday December 6th Maija Saunders collapsed at the Monmouth Post Office. EMTs were on the scene quickly but they could not get her heart re-started. They intubated her and transported her to Salem Hospital where they were able to re-start her heart. She recieved CPR for at least a half hour. It was determined that she suffers from Wolff- Parkinson-White Syndrome or WPW.  While in the Cardiovascular Unit in Salem a Cat Scan showed blood in her abdomen. Upon further review they found that she had a liver laceration which essentially tore her liver in half.  On Friday the 7th they tranported her to OHSU ICU for treatment.  She has an adenoma in her liver that burst during CPR which caused the bleeding and laceration.  Today December 10th she is having a ablation on her heart to correct the WPW and on Monday the 15th she will be having a liver resection to remove the tumor. Right now the outlook is positive, but she has a long road of recovery ahead of her.  From the Salem Hospital to the staff at OHSU, she has become known as "The Miracle Girl."  We are so thankful for our "Miracle Maija!"
