Fight To End Homelessness

Hello,
My name is Byron D. Brooks, and I am not ashamed to tell you that in 2015, I was homeless! I've slept in abandoned buildings, parks, and bus stops. All while attending Henry Ford College, furthering my education. Although I went through so much, I can proudly proclaim that God was with me and he was using my situation to mold me into my purpose. After graduating with honors I was accepted to several prominent institutions, and became an Engelhardt Social Justice Fellow at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor, and used the resources from the fellowship to found a 501c3; From The Hood For The Hood. This marked the beginning of my journey as an agent of change. Our organization is dedicated to developing, empowering, and engaging young people and communities that are often overlooked, while also being a training catalyst for Social Justice and fighting against homelessness. Now our goal is to purchase some land within the city of Detroit and create a life readiness homeless community. In this community, we will not only provide shelter but, with strategic partnerships with community colleges, trade schools, Forbes The Culture, mentors, entrepreneurs and the city of Detroit we will equip our residents with the resources, guidance, and tools needed to help them rise to financial, social, and emotional sustainability.
Together let's help end homelessness in Detroit!
