Hello my name is Tristan Kendall I am a student in the College Bound after school program here at Grover Cleveland Charter High School. They work in coordination with the West Valley Boys & Girls Club. Their mission is to “inspire and enable young people to realize their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens”. As a student I have written a few stories for the Le Sabre student newspaper. I managed their social media account and online website. In addition whenever there was a school event I was responsible for the photographing the event. I also am one of the students who broadcast the news on KCAV a weekly youtube channel. I do enjoy acting, and performed in the school play “Inherit the Wind”. I am proud to say I was awarded the “Most Active Member” in the College Bound program for 2017.
While at Cleveland combining my passion and dedication for the Arts & Journalism. I was offered the opportunity to attend the 13th Annual International Youth Media Summit, that is taking place in Australia this year 2018, from July 24th through August 9th. At the Summit I will have the opportunity to collaborate with other young filmmakers and community activists. The attendees will come from 25 plus different countries to create short films together. Topics focusing on Women’s Rights, Youth Empowerment, Violence, Poverty, Health, Discrimination, and Environmental issues will be the platform.
I participated in the 2017 Los Angeles Youth Media Summit, as an intern I was fortunate to enjoy working with people of various backgrounds, upbringings, and different ideas. We created a film called “Youth Empowerment”. Our film inspired me to see how an idea can come to fruition when people work together. I would like to experience going to Australia and having that same feeling on a larger scale.
However being a senior has become very expensive, my mother has done the best she can to make sure I had everything I needed. She can’t afford to pay for this trip on her own, and my mother and I will be grateful for any donations contributed to make this trip possible.
