ADVERTISING SHITS IN YOUR HEAD ADVERTISING SHITS IN YOUR HEAD ADVERTISING SHITS IN YOUR HEAD.

For  International Women's Day, Femmedaemonium and Special Patrol Group are working for Women's Strike to launch an exhibition across London from sex workers in the fight for equal rights for all womxn and safety in the workplace with the following question:

Why is the subliminal sale of sex in advertising accepted, and the discernible sale of sex vilified?

We seek to reclaim advertising space which uses the sale of sex for capital gain, by replacing them with political discourse from sex worker voices. This campaign seeks to educate society on the decriminalisation of sex work and the dangers of current UK law and policy. We unite to create art which calls for an end to racism and other discrimination within the sex industry.  With this campaign we depict all women used in advertising space as women throughout historical myth and folklore, with commentary on the dehumanisation of women with sexual autonomy.

Art work submissions will be for exhibition, unified by a hashtag to tie in this body of work:

#wewalkamongyou

The message of this hashtag seeks to debunk the image of sex worker stereotypes in the mind’s eye of civilian society. Through depicting sex workers as demons, we highlight not only the social ostricisation of the sex worker, but also the multiplicity of our representation.  Demons depicted in historical literature have been painted as mostly women seeking hysterical, fatal revenge. In this campaign we seek to affront viewers  by depicting the demon daily struggles of staying safe and surviving in human society under cover. This campaign also speaks to multiplicity of class, gender and race by depicting sex workers with the fantastical androgyny of non-humans.  We ask the question: why is our voice silenced in the wider feminist landscape as we fight for the support and safety of keeping all women safe?We seek to personify the demons in this campaign, as we seek to personify sex workers in the fight for equal rights and safety in our working environments.

Without funding, we will still go ahead with this project on our own finance and labour. We need your support in raising funds to make this happen on a larger scale in the city. Your donations will go directly towards the printing and installation of our art work, alongside production costs of our London Exhibition.

All funders of our campaign will be thanked with a printed sticker from our artists, which we recommend you use wisely in the city.
