Interim Medical Expenses for Karen

Donation protected
On The morning of Saturday September 11, 2021 our cousin Karen Charlesworth Moore (along with her two sisters, Elaine and Diane) were volunteering for the Len Herring Bike Ride in Lethbridge and arrived at their assigned location to set up a water table.
They pulled the vehicle over on University Drive, engaged the open switch on the hatch and activated the hazards. Karen proceeded to the rear of the vehicle grabbing the gear to begin the set up when she was hit by a motor vehicle.
Karen’s life ultimately has been changed forever and she will require a lengthy recovery, therapy and ongoing medical/emotional support. She, unfortunately, lost her lower left leg, broke her pelvis, has broken bones in her hand; and soon, she’ll face another surgery on her right knee (repair or reconstruction to be determined).
Karen’s sisters, brother, sons, in-laws, grand children and numerous cousins have received an outpouring of concern from friends, co-workers, and community members. Our family can not ever convey with words our deep appreciation for all the love/concern that you have all expressed for Karen.... a million “thank you’s”. Many of you have asked what you can do to help her so this “go fund me” is an option to you but more importantly Karen will benefit most by your visits, encouragement, and phone calls in the coming months.
We are trying to prepare for her future needs and the list is daunting and will likely grow .... wheelchair, interim prosthetic, permanent prosthetic, new shoes, shower handles, silicone liners, special cleaners/creams, gel packs, grip socks, compressions, a ramp, a lift, pull up handles, special flooring for shower, shower chair, medications, knee crutch, walker, etc etc etc. Honestly, we have no clue what or how much will be covered by AHS and Insurance, hence the go fund me campaign to cover any shortfalls and frankly to alleviate any immediate financial burdens she may face so Karen can focus on healing, relearning to walk, etc etc.
Karen’s team at the Foothills is currently pleased with her healing thus far. As a family we feel incredibly lucky/blessed to still have her with us along with a multitude of friends.
Karen has shown amazing strength, resilience, courage and humour throughout this ordeal.
Thank you to the calm/helpful bystanders at the scene of her accident, the 911 operator’s, the police, firemen, paramedics, social worker, doctors and nurses here in Lethbridge, the team of therapists, doctors and nurses at the Foothills hospital.... your kindness, compassion and skill set(s) have served her well and collectively we will forever be grateful to each one of you!
Hug those you love today.
On behalf of Karen and her family... again thank you, thank you, thank you!
