Bismillah -In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Inna Lillahi wa Inna illahi Rajioon- Surely, we are from Allah (swt) and to Him is our return

On behalf of our entire family, I would like to thank you for joining us in carrying the legacy of our grandmother, Shakoko.

Born in Khandahar Afghanistan and raised in a religious family, Shakoko emphasized the importance of religion and charity. She had 9 children, 3 daughters and 6 sons, all of whom she supported and ensured they proceeded with their education. Her children went on to graduate from Kabul University and followed her steps in taking careers that gave back to their community – including teachers, doctors, engineers, and professors. One fond memory, is that she asked her eldest son to give his very first paycheck to the person who taught him to read the holy Quran. This small gesture indicates the importance of deen and giving back.

In her later years, she spent days and nights in worship never delaying a prayer and constantly reading the holy Quran. After Shakoko’s passing, a few of us spent the day in her vacant room. Beside her nightstand was an outdated suitcase. Neatly packed inside, was her khafaan and all the necessities for her burial. She was not suffering from any serious illnesses, yet had taken the time to prepare for this day.  She knew this life was temporary and only a gateway to the hereafter while we were unprepared for her departure.

Now her grandchildren and great-grandchildren will carry on her legacy of giving back to the community. We are working together in partnership with a non-profit organization, Zam Zam to build a water well and vegetable gardens in the impoverished areas of Khandahar.

May our actions reflect pleasantly on our sweet grandmother. Shakoko jaan will be forever remembered in our hearts. May her soul rest in peace.

Once again thank you all for your support in giving back to the community.

I would like to conclude with a recitation of Surah Fatiha
