Brand new foal injured and now sick

He is less than 48 hours old and already in trouble. His temp is 104. That is dangerously high and we know it is because of a brewing infection. He has a severe puncture wound ( see the picture). To add to the difficulty, his mom is wild, untouchable and stressed!  A pipe panel will go up to allow baby to nurse, but not allow mom to damage, discard, injure or keep help from administering needed care. The round the clock vigilance begins.        This is one pair.

The second pair is a mare Justine and her colt Lil'Jo. They are both finishing quarantine before heading to us. Justine is also wild, but has settled in beautifully and is putting on weight nicely. Colt is about 15 days old now.

I am praying for a pretty substantial amount. Baby number one, I'll call him Georgie may have a hefty vet bill. He is going to need sedation, a flushing, antibiotics, and maybe stitches. The infection is the concern.  I am hoping the community will be there for the first foals of the 2018 season. God Bless those without a voice.
