Indigenous Education Initiative's Scholarship

Spende geschützt

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has served to widen gaps in the already disproportionate rates of education. In particular, there are lower rates of enrollment and retainment for Indigenous students in post-secondary institutions due to barriers to economic, societal, and community levels. Sprott Social Impact Club is committed to providing post-secondary resources and $400 in scholarships for three select Indigenous students. This results in a total fundraising goal of $1200. These students may be currently enrolled in a post-secondary degree program but facing difficulties in their studies, or maybe students who intend to enroll in a post-secondary degree program but must first overcome barriers.

The Truth and Reconciliation Commissioner, Senator Murray Sinclair, declares that “Education is the key to Reconciliation.” Unfortunately, there are still barriers to education that make it difficult to build positive, sustaining relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in schools, work environments, and the shifting future.

The Indigenous Education Initiative is an opportunity to appeal to The Principles of Reconciliation 4, 5, and 6, which focuses on addressing the ongoing colonial legacy, establishing and maintaining mutually respectful relationships, and promoting dialogue through education. Indigenous youth possess the necessary skills to be successful. By providing scholarships to Indigenous students facing financial barriers to education, SSIC can further the goals of reconciliation and move towards a brighter future.

SSIC hopes to help make education accessible for ALL students. This means, enabling students to enroll and remain in post-secondary institutions by removing financial barriers. Together with non-Indigenous peers, we can create rich learning experiences for staff and faculty alike.

Our vision is "To ensure every individual is a contributing member of the society, by making access to education a right rather than a privilege." This is an excellent opportunity for you to become a contributing member of society by donating and promoting our project to achieve this milestone.
