Help adventure guide José Antonio reinvent himself

Donation protected
Hello, I am José Antonio Rivas

Before the coronavirus pandemic, I was a guide in Peru. Apart from fearing for our health, our industry has been all but paralysed but the bills still need to be paid. This has forced me to reinvent myself and look for new opportunities. With my family,  I am setting up a fabric printing business. But we need your help...

I was born in Puerto Maldonado, but now I live in Cusco with my children José Carlos (25 years old) and Andrea Lucia( 15 years old). I began guiding about 20 years ago and for the last 10 years I have been working with Amazonas Explorer. My interests are Peruvian history, culture, and adventure. But if you have ever been on a trip with me more often than not you'll find me out bird watching, mountain biking, or showing my children the great Peruvian outdoors.

I have teamed up with my children to create a fabric printing company. They are much more masters of graphic design than I.  We hope to offer sublimation and printing of cotton and polyester garments. In other words, printing our designs on cotton polo shirts, t-shirts, socks, underwear, bandanas, etc. There are currently  2-3 other businesses in Cusco, but we want to offer better quality products and unique personalized designs developed by my son and daughter. With your help, I hope to invest in the materials to get this off the ground.

We will need a transfer iron, A4 transfer papers, 20/30 cotton products, and a continuous ink printer which we hope to get from Lima in the next couple of weeks. The proposed investment is $2000 equivalent to £1495

The Situation in Peru

Peru has been in one of the most stringent lockdowns since March 15th  We have closed our international borders and have curfews on when we can leave our homes. Yet we are sure we will pull through, it might take us a little time. Hopefully, you can safely come and visit again in 2021! You can follow what is going on at Amazonas Explorer’s blog  Here

I know it’s a tricky time for everyone so just donate what you can. Or if not, please share this on social media and with whoever you can to help my project reach as many people as possible.

Thank you so much for your support

How it works:

I, Paul Cripps, owner of Amazonas Explorer  have agreed to help set up these Gofundme crowdfunding pages for my guides who are struggling to make ends meet whilst the tourism industry implodes in Peru. We hope it will be back one day soon, but for now, they need to reinvent themselves in order to feed their families.

The funds will be collected here in the UK into my account and then I will pay the exact equivalent in Peruvian soles from my Peruvian account into their personal accounts to minimise bank transfer fees and exchange rate fluctuations.

I will also personally contribute the first $150 of each proposal to help them get started. This will be donated directly into their accounts to avoid charges.

Our guides provide a big part of the magic of any trip to Peru and  it is their personal touches, professionalism, wit and charm that makes each trip they guide unforgettable.

So,  if you enjoyed your trip to Peru with one of our guides, please give what you can.

I know times are difficult everywhere but these guides are true heroes, their projects are borne out a desire to survive this pandemic and come out the other side better for the experience.

If you cant donate, please share and spread the word to help them achieve their goals.

Let me take this opportunity to thank you  so much for anything you can do.
