In memory of Tumba’s Havana Banana

This is really hard to write as I am trying to understand why it has happened to such a beautiful family not once but twice

Jellila has been a friend of mine for the last 21 years. She is such a beautiful, fun loving and caring person who always wanted to be a mum. Jellila had two beautiful little girls. Marley and Havana.

In August 2017 Marley passed away at the age of 6 just before her 7th bday from complications due to Influenza B.

This is Jellila recalling the tragedy to me

“I had been trying to get a flu shot for her but she was suffering from tonsillitis and while we were waiting to get an appointment to get her tonsils out she contracted the very bad flu that was going around but the symptoms presented just like when she had tonsillitis. She seemed to be getting better in the Saturday and then that afternoon around 5:30 she was asleep in the lounge room on a bed I had made up so she could watch cartoons and I went to Wake her for her shower and I couldn't wake her. Only 2 hrs before she had been demanding watermelon and other food that she wanted from the shops. Havana, Marley and I all had a nap that morning together because I wasn't feeling well either and Havana was also a bit fluey. So all 3 of us got to cuddle up together that morning and it's something I'll never forget. I'm glad we got to have that last time together with her. I'll never get over that afternoon”.

Most people would have crumbled and given up after losing a child but not Jellila. She had to stay strong now a single mum to Havana.

Havana had Prader willi syndrome. Jellila always said it was a bit Hard to explain as if u google it you are really only going to get a kind of check list of some of the stuff she had to go through, it's so much more complex and because of all the other health issues and trauma Havana faced this all changed her milestones & development.

Prader (opposed to prada ) willi effected Havana's appetite as well. So Jellila had to watch every calorie of what she ate. She had injections of human growth hormones every day to help with her muscle development which Jellila had to administer via a Geno pen needle which she would have these injections until she was 18. The HGH is very new. If a person was diagnosed with prader willi back even 20'years ago their life expectancy was much shorter. Now thanks to genetic research the injections now help build muscle and assist with her gross motor which can then assist in weight management.

Jellila gave up working, her relationship fell apart after losing Marley so she moved back to the Country to be with her mum and devoted her entire life to caring for Havana and keeping the memory of Marley around.

She spent every day dedicated to all of Havana’s medical and therapy sessions and saved every dollar she had so she could buy their first modest home.

She wanted to make sure Havana would have something for when she was older.

Havana couldn’t vocalise her words instead she talked with her amazing little personality . She graduated preschool ready to start Kindergarten this year and even met the funny Magda Subanzki who visited their little town recently.

On Christmas Day tragedy struck a second time and little 5 year old Havana left us to be with her sister Marley. The coroner is looking into Havana’s death so the cause is still unknown.

I have set up this fundraiser so that every dollar goes straight into Jellila’s account. I ask you to please dig deep and help this amazing mother focus on grieving and dealing with the fact that she has lost her entire world with her two beautiful daughters now reunited in heaven.

Every dollar will help with the funeral costs and saving this house that will now be in memory of Havana and Marley.
