In Memory of Sarah Elizabeth Rogers
Donation protected
On November 29, the fifth anniversary of Sarah's passing, we will be taking toys, treats, and toiletry items to the A.D. Children's Hospital in Ndola, Zambia. Sarah had great compassion for hurting children. Thinking of Sarah, my eyes well with tears and gratitude fills my soul. I feel blessed for this opportunity to hand out gifts and pray with the mothers there. When sharing my idea with a friend she said, "Sarah would love that". Yes, she would!!!
This is the only children's hospital in Zambia and mothers have traveled a long way with their sick children to get here. Many are not prepared for their length of stay. The wards are very crowded, with some having to sleep on the floor. My hope is that on November 29th we can bring smiles and laughter to the children and their mothers. When Sarah was in the Portland Children's Hospital someone brought a minature horse for her to pet. We always wanted to 'pay that kindness forward' and share with others the joy and fun that we had that day. When a mother's sick child smiles, so does the mom!
I'm hoping to spend about $3 for each family. I would love to see how many families we can encourage. There are approximately 800 to 1,000 kids at any one time in the hospital. During the rainy season (now), the hospital gets very full, with kids suffering from malaria and malnutrition.
Thank you for helping me honor Sarah's memory on this day.
