In Memory of Mike Cooper

My dad, Mike Cooper started his teaching career at Oadby but then went on to work at Kirby Muxloe Primary school for 27 years where he also became Deputy Head.

He applied to be Head Master on a number of different occasions but was never successful which was no bad thing as dad's passion lay in teaching NOT organizing timetables or other staff. He’d sit with piles of books marking and preparing work all weekend. He’d often recount stories of all the fun things he did with his pupils. He was passionate about passing on knowledge and because he taught for such a long time he ended up teaching the children of the first intake of kids he taught when he was first at the school. Many of the kids he taught kept in touch with him right up until present day and tributes have been flooding in.

Despite my dad not being sporty he coached cross country running and rounders. His school constantly won the Rounders league and the Cross country league. He inspired many of his kids to go on to careers in education and teaching and some of them have said that they still base some of their lessons on the things that they did with him when they were in his class. Apparently, everyone wanted to be in my dads class.

Dad died at the age of 81 on 08/01/21 which is the day that Knightsbridge Estate Agents started their Tablets for Children initiative.  It seems right that rather than flowers for the funeral that donations can be made to underprivileged kids who are in need of laptops in order that they continue their education in schools around Leicestershire.
