Fundraising in loving memory of John Claude

Donation protected
On the 4th April 2024 it will be 3 years since our beloved John died. Not a day has gone by that he has not been missed or remembered. When John was initially diagnosed I remember him telling me that he felt the collective power and love from all over the world as friends and family called and messaged him sending him love and hope and gave him the strength for his ongoing treatment. I am calling on this collective energy once more and this time to use it as a way to raise funds to support two different charities in his name.

I am planning to walk the Ingles Camino in Spain over the first week of April. It is a total of 120 kms from Ferrol to Santiago and I'm hoping that you will sponsor me.

John loved his family, friends and work colleagues. He was creatively energised and fulfilled with his work in post production film and television where he excelled as a Senior Colourist. Happiness was also found in watching cricket (and playing for the local dads school club) rugby, football especially when his favourite team Arsenal won a match, a pint or two at the Ivyhouse usually with the Guardian or Private Eye tucked under his arm, and whenever possible sailing. To top this he loved a good whiskey, being surrounded by books, art and music, talking and debating with friends, travel from the African bush to the Greek Islands, and so much more. Although his life ended far too early, John loved and lived his life to the full.

To honour his memory, Frida, Marianne (mum), Nick (brother) and Anna (sister) and I have agreed that funding Education in Johns name feels appropriate.

I am hoping to raise £3000 to divide equally between a scholarship fund In the UK and a charity in SA

This first will be used to give £1500 to the National Film and Television school as part of a Scholarship fund to be awarded to an upcoming colourist. Whilst John was freelancing he used to tutor and do some guest lecturing at the NFTS.

The other £1500 (approx R34,000) will be given to Pebbles Project in South Africa to support some of the most disadvantaged students in Hermanus which is near to where John and his family have a home in Stanford and was a place which he loved to visit. http://www.pebblesproject.org. The money raised will be used to sponsor a child's education fully for one year including school fees. transport to school, stationery, two meals a day, after school care and extra curricular activities.

I would be so very grateful if you would help me to honour John by raising money for these two causes. Any monies raised over (or under) the expected total will be equally divided between the two.

All donations, small and otherwise are greatly appreciated. I understand that money can be tight at the moment, and if you cannot donate, then wish me well for my walk, send me some motivational WhatsApp's which I will need on a few days, and raise a glass to John on the 4th.

I will update this page and also confirm to any donor where all monies have been allocated.
