In memory of Army Spc. Juan Mendez Covarrubias

We have lost our beloved Juan Miguel Mendez Covarrubias, a loving husband, son, brother, and friend in a rocket attack while serving in Iraq. Army Spc. Juan Miguel Mendez Covarrubias, was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve and was deployed in October 2019.
He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division in Fort Hood, Texas.
Juan’s awards and decorations include the Global War on Terrorism Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon and Army Service Ribbon.
Anyone who knew Juan knew that he had the biggest heart ever. He wore his heart on his selve and never hesitated to help anyone who needed his help. No matter the situation he was the first to offer his helping hand. He had such a way with his words and always seemed to know what to say in the most difficult times. He would encourage everyone to always do the best they could and never settle for less whether that be his family, children he taught or coached, and friends. 


He left such an impact on everyone that he ever came across with. I would always envy how easy it was for him to be able to talk to people and how easy it was for him to make friends. Every where we went around Hanford he was sure to know someone we would encounter.


We will always remember that big smile of his that took half his face and those silly jokes that would lighten the mood.

May God hold you in his arms while we hold you in our hearts.
