In Mason's Memory

The anniversary of Mason's death is approaching, and we were looking for a way to honor him.  The staff at Doernbecher's PICU were AMAZING while Mason was there the last 24 hours of his life, and we'd like to show them some appreciation for how they treated Mason as a patient, and us as a family.  The doctors, nurses, and staff showed so much care and compassion to Mason while he was there.  Encouraging him, talking to him using his name - every time.  Treating him with dignity and respect.  They understood how traumatic our situation was as parents, and gently guided us through every medical issue and decision that needed to be made without losing patience and always with tenderness and care.  Their professionalism was met with just as much sympathy.  It was a very difficult time for our family, but it could have been much worse without their dedication and expertise.  They took care of Mason's needs medically, and our needs emotionally - crying with us through the heartache.  We would like to take a gift basket up to the PICU at Doernbecher so the staff there can practice some self care, since they give so much care to others.  We'd like to put together an array of gift cards - good food, coffee, massage, high end hand salve and compression socks.  All kinds of things that will let them know how much we appreciate the important work they do, and how much it means to the families of the patients who need to go there for care.
