In loving memory of Susan Dean

On December 20, 2017, my mother, Susan Kenney Dean lost her long-fought battle to illnesses she struggled with for many years. For those who knew Susan, knew she struggled for decades in her battle with Crohn’s disease, and in recent years that battle intensified for her. After seemingly countless trips to the hospital and dozens of surgeries she always remained steadfast and determined to continue living her life and providing for me - her only son.

My mother was not only one of the strongest women who walked this earth, from dealing with crushing pain she felt every single day, but she was also one of the most kind hearted and friendliest people who you would ever meet. In fact, generosity was one of the most valued things I learned from my mother. We may not have had the newest electronics, or the greatest things, but that never stopped my mother’s generosity and I believe this all started with how she viewed the world.

My mother used to always tell me, “Jesse, strangers are only friends you haven’t met yet” and it was true. There was never “a new friend” who we met, even if for the very first time, that she would not remember and would take time to ask them how they have been and if there was anything she could do for them. There were many times we encountered other people who were struggling and going through hard times, that she would offer anything she had to help get them through that difficult time – including the very shirt off her own back. You see, Susan was just one of those people who wanted to see everyone happy and carefree, despite the immense pain she may have been feeling or no matter how difficult the road for her was ahead, she wanted the best for everyone else around her. This was just one more of those amazing things about my mother.

In the recent days since her passing, when the world seems so dark and cold, with having to make funeral arrangements and financial decisions on my own at 21 years old, I try to imagine how I am going to get through this. But with the surrounding love of my friends, family and the memories of my mother and her smile – that smile that would just warm your heart and light up a room – I try to hear her telling me as if she were here right now, “Jesse, we are going to be alright and we will get through this.”

Since her passing every single person who loved her has come to realize how many friends she had and how many people loved her – this has been a true testament to how far her love and generosity has spread. Now I am asking for your help and  generosity. With mounting medical bills, unexpected funeral costs, and the uncertainty of future expenses I am asking for your help in giving my mother – my super hero – the proper finally resting place she deserves.

If my inital goal is met, anything over that goal will be donated to the Crohn's Colitis Foundation, in my mother’s name - Susan Kenney Dean.

Thank you for your prayers, support, and generosity and I hope to meet everyone, all of my 'new friends,' who help me through this difficult time one day.

-I love you Mom.
