In Loving Memory Of Ron Laes

Dear Friends and Family,

I never thought in my entire life I would I be reaching out to anyone for support like this. It’s humbling and frankly, very hard for me to do.

Last Thursday on 10-19-17, at 3:30 pm, tragedy struck my family unexpectedly on the Big Island. My heart is broken. My Dad, Ron Laes, had been cutting down a tree and suffered a massive heart attack. His departure was sudden and quick. My Mom, Diana, is devastated and sad beyond words. They moved to the Big Island only 1 year ago and while my Dad worked his job as a master jeweler, my mom worked tirelessly making their new home into a beautiful peaceful paradise. She did all the landscaping and gardening while still making her art to sell at the farmers market on Sundays. My Dad focused on renovating their new home and continued to make amazing jewelry to pay the bills.

My Dad was such an exceptional man. He gave his life to my Mom and me, his family, his friends, and strangers as well. He was a volunteer with the Disaster Medical Assistance Team, and participated in many events including the Maui Xterra competition, for over 15 years. He gave selflessly and unconditionally to everyone that knew him, always lending a helping hand or ear, to anyone that needed him. He served in the Coast Guard, was an accomplished master diver, talented builder, and above all, a fabulous artist. His generosity and love will be missed by all of us.

He leaves behind his daughter Jessica, and me, Kai Mana, as well as 3 amazing grand children and his two loving sisters, Toni and Tari. I worry most about my beautiful Mother, Diana who had been with him for over 30 years.

We are reaching out for assistance at this difficult time. Mom needs financial help to pay bills and arrange for my Dad’s services. My Mom and Dad had lived on Maui most of their time together. They moved to Seattle a few years ago to be closer to my ailing grandmother. They eventually planned to return to Hawaii where they could spend the rest of their lives living out their dream. This dream became a reality last year when they found their property and spent all of their savings to settle in Orchidland on the Big Island.

This tragedy came way too soon, as my Dad was only 66 years old and didn’t have enough time to, once again, build a “nest egg”.

My family and I are reaching out for financial support as our world has been shattered. Any amount will be appreciated and will help my Mom with the excessive bills that she will be facing until she can get back on her feet.

Thanks to everyone for their love and support
