What happens when a loved one passes? They tell you the "stages" you'll go through, the emotions that will overcome, and the emptiness you'll feel; but nothing can truly describe the experience of losing a mother and a wife.
Pamela "Cookie" Poock was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer and leukemia in January 2016. On top of her decades of battling lupus, she was faced with a challenge to which she gave a "bring it on" attitude. Marissa, her daughter, pulled all her energy and resources together and moved her family to NYC so Pam could begin treatment with the best medical teams. The next months, she faced challenges that none could have anticipated, though Pam navigated it all with grace and her ever-so-kick-ass demeanor.
Through the next months, Pam underwent procedure after procedure, test after test. She was placed in hospice care early this summer, but she never once stopped fighting. In June, the family lost their dear Matthew, to suicide. This tragic loss gave Pam more fight, as she wanted to be strong for Gary, Marissa and Jon.
On September 22, with her husband and daughter by her side, Pam went on to be with Matt.
Grief is not only real to this family, but has swept through them like a wave this year. Pam's fight was hard: her battle with the illness was raw and untamed.
Medical bills continue to come for Matthew, and the hospitals send no sympathy with their continued request for remittances of payments for Pam's treatments. I humbly ask, on behalf of the Poock's, that you would please consider donating.
