Improve access to technology for home learning

My name is Michelle Stead and I am the chairperson of St Augustine's Parents Association (SAPA). SAPA would like to raise money to help the school provide adequate technology to children throughout this lockdown whilst remotely learning from home.
St Augustines School, we believe, is the heart of Castlefields and is in one of the largest and most deprived areas in Halton. The average free school meal recipients across the Halton Castle ward is 36.3%, yet our school has a 50% recipient rate. This shows not only are our children from one of the most deprived areas, their families are amongst the poorest within our region. Covid 19 has hit everyone hard, our lives have been turned upside down and our children have had to deal with massive changes to the life that they are used to. Yet again, unable to attend school and their education put at risk. Many of our families do not have sufficient technology for their children to be able to learn virtually. Many families having to share devices adding further stress to families and causing more disruption to learning.
St Augustine’s teachers have been amazing in the support they have shown our children, however, government grants for technology to help children continue learning from home do not provide enough equipment to meet the demand our school has.
That is why we would like to help raise funds to buy equipment such as laptops or tablets, for the school to loan to children who do not have the means to access home learning. All money raised beyond our need to provide suitable technology will be used to directly advance the education and wellbeing of children of the school by providing or assisting in the provision of facilities for education at the school which are not normally provided by the Academy Trust.
