Greetings,
I write to ask your help with medical bills on behalf of the undocumented immigrant brother of a dear friend of mine. Joseph Dalisma had a major health crisis this spring that nearly took his life. Being undocumented and uninsured he waited until the last minute before going to the doctor. As a result the crisis left him in a coma for six weeks. Thanks to a skilled compassionate medical team and his dedicated family he is now, after four months in the hospital, miraculously in recovery and stable at home.
Joseph is young, in his 40s, and expects to regain his fully functioning life. However, the family now owes over $100,00 in medical bills and still needs to buy a Bi-pap machine (to treat sleep apnea) which is between $4-5000. In addition he needs a follow-up surgery. Joseph can only work at minimum wage jobs and struggles to cover his living expenses, let alone the overwhelming medical bills.
I met Joseph originally in 1983 in his home country when he was 9 years old, a sweet gentle open soul. Recently when I saw him again after all these years his loving spirit had not dimmed. He is determined to find his way as an immigrant in this country. We need people like him. Whatever you can offer to his health expenses will be a great gift.
