Bobby age 49 [my husband] & daughter Syd- who was a blessing 2 years ago after being told we were not able to have any more kids.
On Dec 22 2013 we were given the dreadful heartbreaking news that Bobby had stage 3 colorectal cancer, kind of blindsided, thinking we were getting normal test results for something completely non-related. The Dr who diagnosed @ Gettysburg hospital followed that news with "but it's 2 days before the Holidays nobody is working go home and enjoy the Holidays"
We did keep it from Syd her sisterHaley 13 and most of the family, to try and not burden them with our non festive news.
A change of Dr's placed us @ Hopkins @ Bayview where the people & medical staff could not have been better.
So far 2014 went like this-Diagnosed w/ stage 3 colorectal cancer Dec 22, 1st CT scan Dec 26, chemo & radiation started Jan 10-April 10.
Surgery @ Hopkins Bayview May 7, when talking with Dr prior to surgery all the pre testing showed a "normal" presentation and surgery should only be 3 hours "a fairly standard procedure" turned out to be 11 hours w/ complications. During the surgery they found that cancer had spread to the bottom of the Liver. Removed all of the tumor [part of colon] and bottom portion of liver. He came home May 20.
Unfortunately re-admitted May 29 for adhesions & infection.
Home again June 6.
Aug 13 admitted to Hanover hospital for dehydration
Aug 14 transferred back to Hopkins for more aggressive treatment
Aug 18 home again
June started an 11 treatment cycle of high dose IV infusion + daily chemo by pill.
His body has not taken the new drugs well .
He has one last treatment not yet scheduled-again dehydrated.
I know our situation is not new or different from alot of cancer families.
But neither of us has been able to work, and have depleted our savings, again I truly understand how many others are in this very same situation.
If, I can get just 5% of this years medical bills paid on, it would allow us to get back in the work force not live day by day. And enjoy that a year later our family is still intake and planning for the future.
And God willing be able to pay it forward in 2015
