I’m Jessie, 30 years old. In 2015 I was diagnosed with IIH(Intracranial Hypertension) it’s an illness that is still being investigated as doctors haven’t found a cure yet. There’s medication to reduce symptoms but not an actual cure... YET. In the past 5 years I’ve been in and out of hospital like a Yo-Yo I really feel like this has got in the way of my career as a mental health support worker and some friendships. Because of my illness I’ve not been able to see friends as often as I used too. I am currently a bank support worker meaning I work as and when the company needs me to cover shifts. I don’t get paid sick pay or any holiday pay.. I’ve lost a lot of time from work and money because of this condition. I’ve started a go fund me page in hope to get some help. I’m currently waiting to to have a shunt fitted. I take medication daily and I’ve been in and out of hospital with horrific headaches and visual disturbances. I’m under a neurologist at a Norfolk hospital and a Cambridge. Some mornings I can’t get out of bed because my head feel like a Slab of cement.. the pain is sometimes unbearable and there was a time I had to phone 999 because my head hurt so much when I tried to sit up from my bed, I thought I was going to collapse. I have regular Lumber Punctures to relieve the pressure on my brain but this only lasts a small amount of time before the pressure is back and I am in pain. I also have swelling at the back of my eyes meaning some days I can’t see properly, everything is a blur. I’m only 29 years old, I feel like I’ve lost 5 years of my life with this illness, I’ve fallen into debt unfortunately because I’ve had to borrow money to pay bills because I’ve been too sick to work. I’ve had so many injections,tubes,wires and machines hooked up to me I should be known as robot-Jessie. Thank you for taking the time to read about my condition!
