She passed away in her car, on her driveway, while about to go to work, on March 11, 2014 due to a heart complication. This fund will go towards funeral expenses: transporting her body back to Nigeria, along with her family, so they can go witness their mother's funeral.
Mrs. Igwe migrated to the US just three years ago.If you were lucky to meet her, you would know she was full of energy, her smile filled up the room, and she treated everyone like family. If you were in need, she would be the first person to get there, and the last person to leave. She was an avid christian who used every opportunity to praise God. We were priviledged to know her from African Christian Fellowship, where she served as Vice President, Praise & Worship Leader, and Prayer Leader.
Mrs Igwe was a CNA Nurse. She is survived by her husband, and five beautiful children (ages 14 and younger). It is still shocking that a week before she passed, she was excitingly distributing invitation cards for her son's one year birthday celebration. We went ahead and celebrated her son's birthday 12 days after she passed (on March 23rd).
One week after her death, the father called a family meeting to explain that mom was not coming back, and to ask where they would like to bury her body. One of the children said, "we are going to go to colleges, get jobs, and move away from Kentucky. However, we will always go back to visit Nigeria." She will be laid to rest at Abia state, Nigeria, where the majority of her family would have a chance to say goodbye. Transporting her body, her family, and paying other burial expenses would cost over $20,000.
This is an independent effort to show support to the familiy. The family did not ask us to do this. The money raised would go directly to the family. We are asking friends, family, and everyone else to help us reach our goal. No amount is too small.
