Nacho came to Cuidad Obregon Mexico to spend new years with family. In the early hours of the morning on Dec. 30 he was not feeling well and went to the emergency room at Hospital Privado in San Jose de Ciudad Obregon. Right as he walked in he collapsed and suffered a massive heart attack. Fortunately, he received medical attention immediately and they were able to revive him. After some tests it appeared to be a clogged artery. After a few unsuccessful attempts to unblock it he underwent open heart surgery. The doctor successfully performed a bypass. To our surprise, this situation was apparently caused by a genetic condition. As most of you know, Nacho has always been very active. He is a hard worker, has completed various triathalons, 50+ mile bike rides and he is an avid runner.
While the surgery went well he is still in critical condition in ICU. He is not breathing on his own and is medicated to regulate all of his vitals and to keep him sedated. While brain damage is a concern due to the fact that his heart stopped for a significant amount of time, he showed positive signs as he tried to fight the breathing tube and resist most cotton swabs, this shows he was responding. Over the next 48 hours his medical team will slowly and carefully start to take him off some if the medications one at a time. We have high hopes that Nacho will be well.
Many people have asked us how they can help. Nacho has been recently working on retiring, however he never finalized his medical insurance. Nacho is currently without insurance in the US and Mexico. Lalo has been working with an attorney to finalize his seguro social (Mexican Insurance). Even if it gets through in time, he is not able to be moved to a private hospital intensive care unit back home or even another hospital in the area. With the emergency care, open heart surgery and intensive care unit there have been more than $30,000 in charges. Everyday in the ICU adds $2,300. We humbly ask you for your help. No amount is too great or too small - everything helps. God willing, we know soon that Nacho will be telling his famous jokes with all of us!

Nacho llego a Ciudad Obregon en Mexico para celebrar el Año Nuevo con la familia. En la madrugada de el 30 de diciembre Nacho no se sentía bien y fue a la sala de emergencias en el hospital San Jose de Ciudad Obregón.
Cuando iba entrando, sufrió un ataque de corazón masivo y colapsó. Gracias a Dios, recibió atenciones médicas inmediatas y lo pudieron revivir. Después de algunos exámenes, pareció ser una arteria bloqueada. Después de unos intentos de desbloquear la arteria, lo sometieron a cirugía de corazón abierto. El doctor le pudo hacer el bypass exitosamente. A sido una gran sorpresa enterarnos que esta situación fue causada por un problema genético, ya que Nacho siempre ha sido activo y sano. Nacho siempre a trabajado duro, a competido en varios triatlones, ha hecho retos en bicicleta de más de 50 millas, etc.
Gracias a Dios todo salió bien con la cirugía, pero Nacho sigue en cuidados intensivos por que su estado es crítico hasta que comienze a responder por si mismo después de la cirugía. Todavía no respira por si mismo y tiene medicinas que lo ayudan a controlar sus signos vitales. Hay posibilidades que el pueda tener problemas cerebrales por el tiempo que dejo de latir su corazón pero lo bueno es que enseño señas positivas cuando trato de quitarse el tubo para respirar. Tenemos mucha fe que Nacho saldrá bien!

Necesitamos ayuda financiera mientras tratamos de finalizar su seguro médico en ambos lados. Ya debemos más de $30,000 por la cirugía, cuidados intensivos y cuidados de emergencia. Y cada dia en cuidados intensivos requiere recursos de $2,300 por dia.
