Disabled Vet M/C Accident Recover

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Patrick Whitfield. I am a disabled Marine Corps veteran and full time student. This is all new to me and it’s difficult for me to engage in this venture, but it’s becoming apparent that I need some help. I was in a motorcycle accident the beginning of November, 2014 where I was T-boned by a car that was pulling out while on my way to class. My lower right leg was shattered when the car made contact with my right side. Upon arrival at the hospital, I spent 7 hours in the operating room while they reconstructed my leg. As a full time student, even though I am at school using the G.I. Bill, I drove truck every weekend just to make ends meet. This accident has caused me to lose my job because of the recovery time. So, I no longer have the means to keep up with regular bills, let alone the medical bills that are piling up. I do have insurance, but it’s through the VA and they won’t cover any of the bills pertaining to my accident. As my motorcycle was my only form of transportation at the time, I am currently without suitable transportation and am struggling to find and legalize transportation for myself to get to my medical appointments and other needed engagements. Currently, I am seeking resolve with the insurance company through an attorney, but there is no guarantee when that will be resolved or what will be covered.

As someone who spends a lot of time on two wheels and gives to various fundraisers, I know there are far better causes out there than myself. I’ve always been the one to be helping out, and now that I find myself on the other side of it all… It’s extremely hard for me to ask for help. I feel torn for even having to ask, but I also know that everybody needs a little help every once in a while. I know times are tough and budgets are tight for everybody. So, I understand if you can’t help me out. I’ve set my goal a little high due to the fees for using this site so that hopefully, I can end up raising close to what I used to make working for a two month period (which is the minimum recovery time for my injuries). All I ask is that if you don’t have anything to spare, please pass my story along and remember that thoughts and prayers are important too. They may not help pay bills, but positive energy might help me recover and get back on my feet.
