Ian Rawn's Dream Comes True!

Hi, my name is Ian Rawn. I am awestruck that I am writing to you as the lone Texan representing the U.S.A for the 2017 World Winter Games in Austria! When I started skating in 2008, I decided right away that I wanted to be a World Games athlete. I've worked hard to make the team, and I feel happy and proud. I am honored to be chosen for the opportunity for a once in a lifetime chance to be on the Special Olympics world stage.

 I’m a figure skater, and I love to compete. When I started skating, I fell a lot, but I always got back up. Today I can jump, spin, twirl, and dance on the icy surface. When I am competing, and the music comes on for my program, I feel excited and thrilled, and very confident that I can land my jumps and spins and do my footwork. When I finish, I am happy that I did my best. I love skating so much that I belong to the local figure skating club, and I volunteer at all their events…it is super fun, and I get to meet awesome skaters and coaches.

There are many new expenses to get ready for the World Games. I need extra coaching, and I have increased my training to three sessions per week. I want to compete at my very best on the world stage! I need new boots and blades, and I want to start training in the new skates as soon as possible. I also need competition clothes and other supplies for skating and traveling. Some people have donated to Special Olympics Texas on my behalf and I am so grateful. But so many friends have said they want to help me with the things I need so this is the page for all that. The first two things I will do with any gifts given are to fund my extra coaching and my new skates; those are most important.
