Open Heart Surgery for Baby Orion

Beautiful baby Orion Anna Maloney-Day was born September 26th, 2014 at 5:00PM weighing 8lbs 3oz and she will be needing open heart surgery in the New Year in Halifax at IWK. Orion was born with a congenital heart defect called unbalanced atrioventricular septal defect. This is their first child and for the first 3 weeks were unaware that anything was wrong. Orion had a slight murmur in her heart when she was born but presented no symptoms and the doctors assumed the murmur would be unproblematic and sort itself out. They were referred to cardiology as a formality and never had any fear that something serious was wrong. As many of you Moms and Dads out there know all you wish for is a healthy baby to be born. You don’t care if it is a boy or girl, eye color, hair color or who they are going to look like – just a healthy baby. And that is exactly what they were expecting.

Orion needs to have the first part of two open heart surgeries towards the end of January 2015. The first surgery is when she is about 4 months old and then the second part is when she is around 3 years of age.

Orion's Mother is currently in the middle of her education degree (their little girl was a beautiful surprise) and has been working as a private nanny to get through it. She had signed a contract with a new family for January and would have been able to take Orion with her, but now with her surgery and recovery she is unable to return to work. We are fundraising on behalf of this family to help ease the financial burden of travel, accommodations, loss of wages and so they can relax and enjoy her first Christmas with their new bundle of joy. To not have to worry and stress while they patiently wait for Orion to recover safely, would be the best Christmas Wish & Miracle we could hope for.
