The Bailey Fund - Surgery needed.

This is not going to be easy. Let me tell you about Bailey.

Bailey is my best friend, he's a Border Collie and will be 10yrs old on New Years Day. We have been together since he was an 8-week old bundle of fluff, and I loved him immediately. I made him a promise back then; that I would never leave him, nor would I ever allow any harm to come to him.

Why say I would never leave him? Well, back then, I was in the depths of a suicidal depression, with 2 failures (or near misses, depending on your point of view) under my belt, with no apparent way back up.

Bailey had unwittingly become my reason for being, he was my self-worth, he was my life force. He asked for so little, just food, water, some play, some cuddles, some care and consideration, and my companionship. There were days when even those I struggled to provide, but he never judged, he never criticised, and he never gave up on me.

I am so embarrassed to admit, that even with him there, at times my grasp on life became perilously weak, but as I considered the booze and pills, from somewhere would come a chin to rest on my leg, two big brown eyes to stare in to mine and almost a voice saying “don't leave me dad” -

He saved my life and he did it several times.

Today, thankfully, that black cloud under which I existed has gone. With the help of some great people I now know that despite it all, I have a future, and it is one that I deserve. But so does Bailey deserve a future, and at this moment it is his that is in jeopardy and I am unable to provide it for him. It is for this reason that you are reading our story today.

Bailey has developed a Perineal Hernia, which will require surgery to rectify. The surgery is complex and as such requires a specialist referral not covered by his pet insurance (surprise-surprise!!!), and the best estimate of costs thus far is between two to three thousand pounds; money I just do not have.

If you can help me, to help my best friend I will be eternally grateful. Any small amount will ease the task ahead, but even just to share this appeal across your social media friends will widen the net and hopefully achieve the result I so desperately need.

I have exhausted every charitable avenue I can think of, none can help at this level, but anything raised by this appeal that is not used in Baileys' treatment will be split equally between RSPCA, PDSA and The Dog's Trust.

There was a time when I would have just gone ahead with this procedure without question, but having been so long out of work, and certain more recent diagnoses precluding taking on anything too strenuous for a while yet, I am reduced to begging (for that is what it is) – but my pride I can re-build, but for Bailey I need the skills of an expert, and that costs money.

Thank you for taking time out to read our story, and in whatever way you are able to help, I thank you from my very core – and if you ever meet Bailey at some time in the future, I know he will show you his thanks too – albeit by way of a sloppy lick of his tongue! Thank you, Peter Griffiths.
