Jesse Medina (age 57) was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary hypertension (PH) approximately 3 years ago. It is otherwise known as the other high blood pressure www.PHAssociation.org . But unlike systemic blood pressure, it is harder to diagnose and a challenge to treat. As Jesse says "to make a long story short"; Jesse need's a heart and lung transplant. Living in Mitchell, Nebraska makes it hard for Jesse to get quick medical attention as PH is rare and finding specialists in small town USA is not possible. Jesse has to travel to Loveland, Colorado (153 miles) at least once a month for check ups and to make it easier on him they go the evening before and check into a hotel ($). Jesse was life flighted due to internal bleeding complications and was able to survive through prayer and God helping the medical staff.
Jesse was a very active individual who loved to take somone's junk and transformed it into beautiful, usable items. He loves antiques and he enjoyed refurbishing them into wine holders. Jesse is no longer able to do his passions because his condition is getting worse. He has severe edema in his legs, arms and abdomen; okay his whole body. He can't walk very far and has to be on oxygen more often than not. It was hard for him to let go of projects he had planned to complete. In order for Jesse to be considered for a transplant the doctors have to try all medication. As Jesse's sister I find it hard to see such a vibrant young man start to lose hope and let frustration set in. Well he is one medication away from being evaluated to be considered for placement on a waiting list for a lung/heart transplant.
Jesse needs financial help to be able to continue treatment, trips to Loveland and to be seen at the MAYO clinic http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pulmonary-hypertension which is another avenue he is considering. All this takes money and Jesse is disabled but does not get enough in SS benefits to be able to pay for everyday living expenses and medical costs. Jesse's wife, Kathy is working to maintain insurance coverage but they need financial help to meet their medical needs. Jesse would also like to ask that if you are not able to provided financial support then please pray for him and his family.
