Honduran Hurricane Eta Relief Fund (Complete!)

Donation protected

UPDATE 03. December 05 2020:

The funds you raised have been transferred to the Red Cross of Honduras. There was quite of red tape to deal with in getting the donations, but after quite a bit of back and forth the funds you raised are now helping Honduran families get back on their feet.

The storms were catastrophic, washing away entire neighborhoods. Your donations are going directly to the shelters to provide people displaced by the storm with food, water, medical attention, PPE, and a provisional roof over their heads.

This fundraiser will remain active through December. If support remains consistent, it'll stay online.

Thank you for the time, work and  money you pledged to this effort!

UPDATE 02. November 18 2020:

Donations are still being accepted!

UPDATE 01. November 17 2020:

We have met our goal in five days!!! Thank you to everyone who donated and supported the campaign in the midst of such a dreadful year. Now we can get to work. Once we have access to the funds, the next step will be to directly support groups  acquiring and delivering clothes/food/medicine for the shelter, namely the Honduran Red Cross who we believe have the best existing supply lines and logistics. We will accomplish this through a bank transfer. From there, they will be able to help clothe, feed and bring assistance to the over 80,000 Honduran families currently in shelters around the country.

I know the support you raise won't help every affected person, but if even one shelter can be assisted during what will most likely be a long, long recovery period, then you and I will have done our job.

This fundraiser was organized by Tomas, a Honduran journalist from Tegucigalpa. After surviving the events of Hurricane Mitch in 1998, and growing up in the then destroyed downtown sector of the city, it became a deeply formative experience in who I am today. I couldn't run around and cover the story, I felt it was more important to directly help. With the scale of the storms so massive, I looked for the friends of Honduras, abroad and at home, to heed the call to action:

Help bring support to Honduran families in the wake of the back to back Hurricane Eta and Hurricane Iota.

Something you have pulled off in JUST FIVE DAYS!

On behalf of Hondurans, thank you for everything, for ever.

Now its time to work.

PS: I will update this space as news of your support develops.

Original post November 12th 2020.

Honduran families need your help. In this endless 2020 Hurricane season, Tropical Storm Eta has completely flooded northern Honduras as well as our neighboring countries.

Thousands have been left homeless and many are still missing. As we head into the colder months of the year, and what should be a time of holidays and family, there is a dire need for clothing, food, shelter medicine, and so many other resources to help the countless families in their time of most critical need.

Please help us not lose one more Honduran life.

Shelters are at overcapacity with families sleeping rough wherever they can even as errant storms continue to pour around the country. All in the middle of the pandemic and with so many other issues plaguing the country, these are people who have endured so much for so long, now it's our turn to help them.

Please consider donating to help some of the most vulnerable people in the western hemisphere.

With your support, every dollar donated will go to partners helping to provide food, shelter, medicine, PPE, and the many things that these families need as we go into the holiday season.

Last time you helped feed thousands of refugees who were forced from their homes, this time help Hondurans who lost their everything including their homes.

THANK YOU!!

GRACIAS!!!!!!!

We are Tomas, a journalist from Honduras, and Scott, an ally from Ohio, who want to help Honduran families find relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Eta & Iota.
