Hydration for those Who are Homeless
Don protégé
Welcome to the (A)qua Team!
We are now in the first month of Summer, the temps are starting to rise, and if you are living on the street, clean and cool water is hard to come by. While there are many other issues our brothers and sisters on the street face, this is one area that I have been helping with for the last couple of summers. It doesn't solve their day to day issues, but at least on a very hot day they can at least be hydrated.
As of July 11th, your donations have helped me deliver over 200 bottles of water, and about 120 bananas. The bananas help to replace electrolytes lost through sweating. Also, each homeless dog gets a bottle of water.
While I have done this on a small level, I thought with the help of friends and family, I'd be able to do a bit more. That's where you come in to be part of the (A) Team!
When the temps are stating to rise and are forecasted to be over 97 degrees, I usually hop in the car at lunch or after work on the weekdays (anytime on the weekends, of course) and distribute water to those in West Sac and in Downtown/Midtown Sacramento.
I will post updates (with receipts) on the purchases and number of bottles distributed. Please note, this not a 501c3 organizations, so your donation is not tax deductible. I am only shooting for $400 now to get through the summer but if there is more donated, the more water to be shared.
Another note, is that I will be seeking to distribute cold water in aluminum or cardboard containers which are easier to recycle or decompose. Of course, if you see a sale on such things, let me know so we can get more while spending less!
Finally, the donations can be just $10 or $5 or whatever you can comfortably give. Every drop counts!
Thanks in advance,
Dave
