Wade Cabin Fund

June 21st marked the 3rd anniversary of the Brian Head wildfire that destroyed our family's cabin. The reason behind this delayed fundraiser is due to my family awaiting the results of an ongoing court case against the man responsible for starting the blaze. The case resulted in a plea deal on March 11, 2020.  The initial charge of reckless burning was dropped because homeowners' insurance does not cover acts of recklessness. Prosecutors wanted homeowners of damaged properties to use their insurance to recoup any loss or damage. Under Utah law, our cabin was not able to be insured, so my family will receive nothing to replace what was lost.

Nothing was retrieved from inside because our cabin sat well-off the beaten path, and there was no time to get there. The fire traveled 10 miles in roughly 9 minutes. Our Dad and Uncle helped our grandpa to build our cabin when they were just teenagers. We are not getting any younger and would like to rebuild while our Dad still has the energy and strength to do so. Our cabin had stood tall since the 60s, and we would like to see it stand again.

No donation is too small, and any donation will be greatly appreciated.
