Memorial Expenses for Tamera Kirby

This is my mom. About 3 weeks ago she cut her hand on a porcelain knife and it became infected. Mom didn't have health insurance and didn't want to go to the doctor because she was afraid of the bill. There is no way of knowing what would happen. The cut became infected with necrotizing fasciitis, which is a flesh eating bacteria. The symptoms are very common and a lot of them mimicked her diabetes. Fatigue, dizzyness, etc. Unfortunately because of the diabetes, this accelerated the speed of the infection due to her compromised immune system. By the time she was flown to Vanderbilt, one week after cutting her hand, the doctors immediately removed her right arm from the shoulder down to save her life. She was in sepsis. After five days and multiple surgeries that included debridement of the dead tissue (total removal down to the bone), the same doctors who thought they had the infection under control told us that it had spread to the other side. Instead of having my beautiful, big spirited mom skinned and chopped up anymore, we knew that she would not want to lose the other arm or anymore of her body. The infection was too far gone and the doctors admitted that they couldn't get it under control. Mom passed away peacefully the day after easter, a week and one day after being flown to Vanderbilt. She was in no pain. Due to also having no life insurance this account has been set up. Anything would help. Thank you.
