Iashia Nelson, her three kids, and 8 other relatives were among the 30 people that were stranded on top the roof of their apartment building, on GMA this morning.
Iashia and her youngest sister Erica, were the first to lose their apartments and everything in it. As their apartments quickly became submerged under water, they attempted to evacuate to another sisters 2nd floor apartment for safety. Being that they are all in the same apartment complex and near a bayou, the water soon crept to the 2nd floor as well so they had to find a way to make it to higher ground, which was to the roof. While on the roof, they had no food or water, saw many dead bodies floating right in front their faces and weren't able to get any help for the longest.
This is dèjá vu. This family had the same fate over a decade ago when Hurricane Katrina destroyed their city, their homes, and nearly took their lives. Loosing all that you once had, having to rebuild your life; mentally, emotionally, and physically, for the second time is beyond hard and stressful. Having to nourish your young kids back to health after such a devastating incident is even tougher. Please help this family in any way(s) that you can. ANY & EVERY bit of help is NEEDED & APPRECIATED!!!
Please take into consideration that this is a family of 12, there's kids ranging from ages 3-13yo, they have nothing but the clothes on their backs, they have nowhere to go and they don't know how they'll receive their next meal.
ALL funds will be linked directly to Iashia Nelson's bank account and will be used to get them somewhere safe to stay, food, clothes and also professional help such as therapy or counseling for all of them.
