Hurricane Relief Fund: Help Three Families

During the month of November, Hurricane Iota made landfall in Central America during a record breaking hurricane season as a category 5. While North Carolina was not in the path of destruction, three of our friends with families in Honduras (Gloria and Carolina) and Venezuela (Jose) had their lives changed when their homes were submerged in 6 feet of water. This page will serve as a way for us to collect donations to directly send to their families so they may replace their belongings and receive monetary assistance to rebuild or obtain new housing. These donations will help relieve some of their emotional and financial stress so they may begin rebuilding their lives. 

Durante el mes de noviembre, el huracán Iota tocó tierra en América Central durante una temporada récord de huracanes como categoría 5. Si bien Carolina del Norte no estaba en el camino de la destrucción, aquellos con familias en Honduras y Venezuela cambiaron su vida cuando sus casas fueron sumergidas en 6 pies de agua. El agua arrasó con sus pertenencias y sus espacios se volvieron inhabitable una vez empapados y cubiertos en lodo. El propósito de este fondo es brindar asistencia a estas familias que intentan reponer lo perdido y reconstruir sus vidas.

Gloria

Gloria’s Uncle’s bright blue house was suddenly underwater when Hurricane Iota entered Honduras mid-November. The house is home to 5 of her family members made up of 3 uncles and 2 cousins who are struggling with coming to terms with the destruction of their home. The family is currently living with an Aunt for the foreseeable future.

La casa azul brillante del tío de Gloria quedó repentinamente bajo agua cuando el huracán Iota entró en Honduras a mediados de noviembre. La casa es el hogar de 5 miembros de su familia compuesta por 3 tíos y 2 primos que están luchando por aceptar la destrucción de su hogar. La familia vive actualmente con una tía en el futuro previsible.

Jose

Jose’s 2 brothers in Venezuela were in their house when the left side of their roof ripped away with the wind. Their household is contains 3 children ages 8 months to 11 years old and funds to feed the family are tight due to repairs required for their home.

Los 2 hermanos de José en Venezuela estaban en su casa cuando el lado izquierdo del techo arrancado por el viento. Su hogar tiene 3 niños de entre 8 meses y 11 años. Los fondos para alimentar a la familia son escasos debido a las reparaciones necesarias para su hogar.


Carolina

Carolina’s mother and her household of 6 lost everything due to the flooding from the hurricane. In fact, the house is still underwater today meaning the house and all the contents inside will likely be unsalvageable. Their family is concerned for not only their personal road to recovery but Honduras as a whole.

La madre de Carolina y su familia de 6 personas perdieron todo debido a las inundaciones del huracán. De hecho, la casa todavía está bajo el agua hoy, lo que significa que es probable que la casa y todo el contenido del interior sean insalvables. Su familia está preocupada no solo por su camino personal hacia la recuperación, sino también por todo Honduras en su conjunto.
