Hurricane Relief for Jeannie Clack

Donation protected
Jeannie Clack (one of my favorite Cornell people) and her husband Mark Friedrick are facing hurricane Harvey devastation.  Gofundme says I have to say who I am and how I know the recipients, so, I'm Kari and I'm in Denver, but I'm helping a dear friend and her husband and their family in Houston overcome the destruction this storm has wreaked in their lives.

Jeannie and her husband, Mark and their two daughters have been displaced by the wrath of Hurricane Harvey.  Their home is in the western part of the Houston area, and backs up to the reservoir that keeps the city from flooding.  Basically, their neighborhood is underwater to keep the rest of Houston from staying underwater.   In their home, there's 12-18 inches of water, but just outside of their doors, the water in the yard and in the streets is about 3 feet deep.

They are currently staying with family, and have been able to reach their house by boat to get keepsakes and beloved personal items out, but it will a long time before they're living in their home again.

They've been in this neighborhood for 16 years, and have never flooded, ever.  So they don't have flood insurance.  They have applied for assistance from FEMA and various relief agencies, but at this point there are so many variables.

I'm sure you've wondered how you can help them.  First, prayer.  Keep the 4 (well, 6 if you include dogs) of them in your prayers.  There's so much going on that they can't control, help from higher powers and warm, dry thoughts from loved ones are so appreciated.

Second, and this seems kind of pushy from Southern and Midwestern people, money.   If you're reading this, you probably know Jeannie & Mark.   They are organized people.  They have plans.  But, to get fans and flooring and roll off dumpsters and yuck out of their house so they can live there safely, they need funding to get started.  They need a boost to get back on their feet (and on dry land).

Donations will be used for rental cars, temporary housing, roll off dumpsters and haul away services, new flooring, fans, electricians, dry wall repair, cabinrts, paint and painters, landscaping, cleaning supplies, water heater repair/replacement, HVAC assessment and repair, appliances, and basic living expenses like groceries and clothes.

Jeannie will have full withdrawal authority, not me.   She will report back to us her progress.  All donations go to her.

We've all seen the destruction on the news.  And we all want to help.  Here's a real way to help someone you actually know overcome this horrible disaster.

Jeannie and I met on the first day of college, and we've been close ever since.  This 25-year friendship has been through a lot, but nothing like this.

And thank you for reading, for considering, for praying.  Everything helps, and everything is so very, very appreciated.
