Hurricane Irma's Miracle Baby Boy

Don protégé
Hurricane Irma’s Miracle Baby Boy On September 10th 2017 Tommy & Keri’s life was turned upside down. With Hurricane Irma forecasted to be a direct hit on their home town of Cape Coral, FL as a category 5 named hurricane, they decided to pack up their four children and travel to Keri’s parents house in Watertown, Massachusetts. Twelve hours after arriving in Watertown, Massachusetts Keri, who was pregnant, water ruptured at 21 weeks- 5 months too early! After being told devastating news at one hospital, the couple’s faithfulness & determination brought them to a second hospital where Keri was immediately admitted. Although a blessing had occurred thanks to this Boston hospital the couple was again given heart-wrenching news that they had a 50/50 chance of their baby surviving. This woeful information struck the couple deeply since the couple had previously miscarried at twelve weeks and this baby would be their rainbow baby. Keri and Tommy leaned heavily on their faith and prayed daily for the Lord to keep their baby safe. This baby was the missing puzzle piece to complete this beautiful blended family. Two weeks later, Tommy returned to the family’s home in Florida with their four older children and the two family dogs, where Tommy took on the roll of Mom and Dad while also working a strenuous work week. Keri who was still admitted in Antepartum, stayed behind with one very important job; grow their baby. Six and a half weeks later, on the morning of October 25th while Tommy & their 4 children were home in Florida, 1,500 miles away, Keri gave birth 3 months early, at 28 weeks, to a beautiful baby boy. They named him Kevin August, after Keri’s Dad & Tommy’s Paternal Grandfather. Kevin is a micro preemie. He was born weighing only 3 pounds with severe chronic lung disease, due in part by the complications of Keri’s water rupturing early & being born 3 months too early and only 3 pounds, plus other contributing factors. This rupture known as PPROM, caused dire risk to his mother and Kevin before he was even born. Since birth, Kevin has had more testing done than any one person should ever have to endure. Kevin had been on and off a ventilator since he was born allowing his lungs to heal & giving his delicate, premature body time to grow. He’s currently on oxygen 24/7. He's shown many times already that miracles do happen, giving his family a truly inspirational testimony of hope & faith. Kevin was cared for by a Level 4 NICU in Boston for 94 days where he got healthy & strong enough to make his journey home back to Florida. Kevin is still very sick, but today, he is stable. Kevin is a fighter, a warrior. He’s overcome so many obstacles already, including 4 lumbar punctures, 2 EEG’s and an MRI for his seizures, many x-rays, 5 blood transfusions, 2 platelet transfusions and many other blood tests & exams due to his chronic lung disease, infections & other illness. They don’t call preemies “Million Dollar Babies” for no reason. Kevin’s care was around the clock and still is at home with his parents never leaving his side. Keri’s 2 months in the hospital, plus her stay in Boston and the medical bills & other related bills, with the cost of travel & Keri living away from home & not able to work has taken a heavy toll on this family. Even with their family’s private insurance, their medical bills alone for both Keri & Kevin will be well over $250,000- many of the bills already rolling in over tens of thousands already. Please pray for this miraculous baby boy and his family. Pls pass it along to your family & friends & strangers alike. Please help this family and know that any donation amount will greatly help & be a huge blessing. Keri & Tommy are kind souls and are always there to help others- lets shower this family with our love & generosity! God Bless Kevin and his family Kevin's parents, Tommy & Keri Krastel, and his siblings Makena, 8, Shelbie, 10, Brady, 10, and Thomas, 12. My Goal My goal would be to help this family of 7 cover their expenses during these difficult months.
