Hurricane Irma and Ian Rebuild and Recovery

Hi, my name is Lynne and I am fundraising for my 81 year old mother. Five years ago Hurricane Irma damaged my parents home In SWFL. My parents are native Detroiters transplanted in 1978 to Ft Myers. After 20 years as a dedicated Highland Park MI Firefighter my father packed a uhaul and 5 kids, his wife and infant granddaughter and headed to what he called Paradise. I grew up in their home from 78-93 before moving to Cleveland.

My father wanted the best for his family and worked hard and played hard earning 3 Senior Softball World Series Championships. We wer home, 1664 S Flossmoor Rd Ft Myers FL was home.

Irma caused more extensive damage than initially thought and my parents were give s grant from the state through Rebuild Florida years of delays brings us to Sept 22 when Ft Myers was devastated by a near Cat 5 hurricane. Further damage shook the Governor to push to get projects like my parents done.

Long story short I was pushed to head home to pack up any belongings salvageable and the rebuild would start. Well mom ended up in acute renal failure during Ian due to lack of power air and potable water. While she was ill and then in rehab we worked to get her home ready for demo, being promised 90 days start to finish. Mom was placed in temporary custodial care in a nursing home during this time. We are in month 7 and her home is a vacant lot. All of her income goes to the nursing home. Come June she will be out of finds to pay her monthly bills, homeowners insurance has tripled as well as other bills. I am reaching out for assistance in raising enough to cover her monthly bills which are approximately $600/mo. There is no eta on when the rebuild will start. I have exhausted all outlets, the Governor, Rebuild Florida and DEO.

Sadly, my father passed away in 2019 and will never see the beautiful home he called Paradise. I owe this to Mom and Dad
