Hurricane Iota relief in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua

Donation protected
My friend Denis Jhackson is a native Miskito tribe member who lives in Puerto Cabezas in northeastern Nicaragua. I met him when I did a volunteer trip there and gave a workshop to local women about how to grow businesses sustainably. Denis helped me set up the workshop and maintained the computers used. Since then we've stayed in touch over Facebook, catching up on what was happening in our lives.

Puerto Cabezas is on the coast, with only two flights arriving daily carrying only 50 passengers and supplies from inland. Most visitors and locals travel by boat. There is extreme poverty in the region. Most of the citizens are the Moskito Indigenous group and get little to no aid from the government.

Denis lost his roof during Hurricane Eta, flooding his home, and now faces a greater threat from this monstrous storm - Hurricane Iota is now a Category 5. It is expected to make landfall with the eye going right through Puerto Cabezas.

I've posted some photos from my trip there back in 2009. They were some of the nicest people I've met in Central America, and I want to help them recover.

Denis will share the funds raised with the women in the community we worked with while I was there.  If you have even just $5, it will help them with food and temporary shelter. Once the fundraiser ends I will send the money to Denis via Western Union and post the receipt plus some photos from Denis of how the donations were spent.

About Me: I realize that some of you do not know me and want to trust the donations are going to the right place. I am a former public school teacher, who grew up in Virginia.
