Hello all! My name is Rose Oliver Gryskevicz. Currently I reside in Northeastern Pennsylvania. However, I have siblings and extended family living in the area recently destroyed by Hurricane Michael. This hurricane was initially measured as a Category 1 and quickly escalated to a Category 4. To give you some idea, hurricane winds at Cat 4 ripped train cars off tracks and threw 18-wheelers around like they were toys. My family’s story appears below and I hope and pray you will read on.
Over 20 members of my immediate family, the Oliver family, live in Panama City, Florida. We are beyond grateful for their safety, however, sadly, all else was lost to the storm. Homes, businesses and jobs, all are gone, in the blink of an eye…the eye of a hurricane. My nieces and nephews grew up in this area. It is truly their home in every way. It is where they played, learned, fell in love with their future spouses and married to raise families of their own. This was their home, security and “safe space.” But it is no more. Hurricane Michael changed their lives, profoundly. What they spent decades building, was gone in a matter of hours. It will take weeks, months, perhaps even years to rebuild Panama City.
My family members are strong and are all hard working. We have all been there for each other in the past. However, this time, we have nothing left to give each other. Therefore, I’m asking you to please consider contributing something, anything, that is comfortable for you financially. Often times, when we give to causes there are no names and faces attached to the cause. (That doesn’t make them any less worthy.) This time, however, there are…they are my siblings and spouses: Michael Oliver and Kim Griffen, Bill Oliver and Linda Oliver.......... they are my nieces their spouses and children: Kristie, Stephanie, Sabrina, Lorraine and Lori........ and my nephew, Shawn, his spouse and children. They are my family and their faces are ones I will love forever. Prayers are also very much appreciated. We are counting on our Mom, our Matriarch in Heaven, for her fervent care and sense of strength as we rebuild.
In the meantime, please consider donating any amount. Truly, it would make a difference to over 20 people from ONE family. If the situation were reversed, I know my family would help others. But this time they are the ones in need.
One last request, be grateful for every good thing in your life. Take pride in your accomplishments and all you have worked for and built in your lives. It is indeed precious. And it indeed could be taken away faster than I hope you will ever know.
