Hurricane Harvey Heartbreak

I am not one who likes to ask for assistance, but Hurricane Harvey has left me no choice.
We just moved into our home in Dickinson, TX 3 short months ago. It was our new beginning after hard times last year. As our home was inspected, it was determined that our new home was not in a flood zone, so we did not add the additional flood coverage to our regular homeowner's and windstorm insurance policies. Funds were tight, so it was a "luxury" we couldn't afford.
That all changed on August 26, 2017. Hurricane Harvey came raging in, to my neighborhood in Dickinson, Texas, that had never had any flooding problems from previous hurricanes.
As the night progressed, the drainage could not keep up with the massive rainfall (24 inches in 24 hrs). Our new home began flooding. By the time we had to evacuate, we had 2 ft of contaminated water in our home. We had to pack what little we could and swim to a rescue army truck parked a block away, as water was chest high and it could not venture any closer.
By day 3 of Harvey, my city had taken on over 34 inches of rain. And, it is still raining now on day 5. We lost everything. Our home flooded, what little furnishings we had were overcome with water, including bedrooms for 2 children. Even most of our clothes and shoes were damaged.
Our homeowner's insurance claim agent has reminded us that we do not have flood insurance, so we are fighting a losing battle. We have to repair a flooded home, and all furnishings on our own. We lost both of our vehicles as well, which will be the only things covered as losses. I greatly debated starting this fund, but we hit rock bottom. If you cannot donate, we understand, many others are just as bad off, or worse, than we are. So we would only ask for your thoughts and prayers in our journey ahead, and keep the victims of Hurricane Harvey in your hearts.
