Kayla's Fight Against Cancer

On Friday August 21st, Kayla decided to check herself into the hospital. She had been experiencing some unusual pressure associated with her left upper teeth. Her family doctor had suggested sending her to an oral surgeon, which would have taken months, but she followed her intuition. In the ER, the doctors suggested that she probably just had sinusitis; however, she advocated for herself, insisting on a CT scan. After waiting 9 hours, she was delivered the most shocking and horrible news of her life: The images showed a tumor in her nasal passages, as well as concerning degeneration of the bone. Since then, a biopsy has confirmed that Kayla has lymphoma, which is cancer of the lymph nodes and immune system.
Kayla is truly a warrior. She has more strength and bravery than anyone I know, and she will fight this cancer with everything she has -- she insists that nothing will take her away from her life partner, Andrew, or from their two beautiful girls, Avenya and Anika.
Kayla hopes to integrate as many holistic approaches as possible alongside the conventional medical approaches recommended by her doctors (chemotherapy, radiation and surgery), but alternative medicine is expensive. Further, Kayla's immune system will be severely compromised, so their family will need to go into isolation. Though Andrew is the primary income earner at this time, he will need to put his business on hold to be there to support and care for Kayla and their two little girls (both under three), and for all of them to avoid any additional health risks.
Summoning the physical, psychological and emotional strength to fight cancer will be challenging beyond measure, especially while isolating, and with no source of income.
