My name is Tyhena Cook, I am a doula in South Florida. Along with my friend and partner Mari Hart, we volunteer to help mothers in socially vulnerable situations during the pre and postpartum period. The project consists of helping women, supporting them physically and emotionally during pregnancy and puerperium.
Recently, a mom-to be-contacted us with a request for help. She is 27 weeks pregnant. Her story has touched our hearts and we feel that, together, we can help her. This mother cannot be identified for legal purposes, but overcoming fear, she came to us and opened her heart. She has been here in the USA for over 2 years, without family members or close friends who can provide the support she needs in this magical and fragile moment of a woman’s life. Her pregnancy is the result of domestic violence. As a victim of such cruelty, finding herself alone with several traumas caused by abuses of all kinds coming from the baby's father, this mother expressed all her concerns; not only with the pregnancy and the postpartum itself, but also with her safety at the time of delivery.
For this mother, at this moment, after all the aggression and harassment suffered, along with being alone in the middle of a global pandemic, having her baby in the most humane and respectful way possible is the highest priority. Along with the American government, this mother got prenatal support as well as a psychologist who is dealing with her post-traumatic stress, along with nurses. Her delivery costs, however, will not be covered in any way.
Having to deal with all the stress and worry of this situation, along with not being able to return to her home country with her family due to the gestational age and for belonging to the risk group of covid-19, we are here to join forces and build a powerful network support.
It is essential that she can have her first baby in a place where she feels safe and respected, where her birth plan is followed, where she and her baby can have immediate skin to skin contact after birth without the risk of COVID-19 infection, so that this new life is welcomed and loved despite all the adversity of conception and pregnancy.
We, as birth professionals and as a network that helps mothers, give all the support to a low-risk pregnant woman who seeks her humane delivery. We contacted midwives and found a volunteer willing to help make this plan possible. She agreed to join us in this chain of solidarity, charging only the material cost (no labor included). A natural birth today in Florida has an average cost of $ 8,000 if there are no complications.
In a hospital, this starting price can be up to double, besides the fact that the golden hour and doulas are not being allowed during the pandemic, which are part of a humanized birth.
The hardest part has already been achieved! The trousseau is almost all ready thanks to the love and donations of other families. Now, we need your help to make the delivery happen. One by one, little by little, we will be able to reach this amount before the baby's due date, scheduled for early September.

Esta mãe não pode ser identificada por motivos judiciais, mas superando o medo, veio até nós e abriu o seu coração. Ela está há mais de 2 anos aqui nos EUA, sem familiares ou amigos próximos que possam dar o suporte que ela precisa. Sua gravidez é fruto de uma violência doméstica. Vítima de tamanha crueldade, sozinha, com diversos traumas provocados por abusos de todo os tipos vindo do progenitor do bebê, essa mãe expressou toda a sua preocupação, não só com a gravidez e o pós parto em si, mas também com sua segurança na hora do parto.
Para esta mãe, neste momento, depois de toda a agressão sofrida e de se ver sozinha em meio a uma pandemia global, ter seu bebê da forma mais humanizada e respeitosa possível, é a maior prioridade. Junto ao governo americano, essa mãe conseguiu apoio pré natal com psicóloga, que está tratando do estresse pós traumático, e enfermeiras. Os custos do seu parto, entretanto, não serão cobertos de forma nenhuma.
Tendo que lidar com todo o estresse e preocupação desta situação, não podendo voltar para seu país natal com sua família, devida a sua idade gestacional e por pertencer ao grupo de risco do COVID-19, estamos aqui para unir forças e construir uma potente rede apoio.
Ter seu parto em um lugar onde ela se sinta segura e acolhida, onde seu plano de parto seja seguido. Um lugar onde ela e seu bebê poderão ter contato imediato pós nascimento, sem correr risco de contaminação, para que esta nova vida seja tão bem vinda e sinta-se amado, apesar de toda a adversidade da concepção e gestação.
Nós, como profissionais do parto e como uma rede que ajuda mães, damos todo o apoio a uma gestante de baixo risco que busca seu parto humanizado. Entramos em contato com parteiras e conseguimos uma voluntária para ajudar esse plano a ser possível. Ela concordou em se juntar à nós nessa corrente de solidariedade, cobrando apenas o valor dos custos. Um parto natural hoje em dia na Flórida, tem o custo médio de $8.000, se não houver nenhuma complicação. Em um hospital, este preço inicial pode ser até o dobro.
O mais difícil já conseguimos! O enxoval já está quase todo pronto graças ao amor e doações de outras famílias. Agora, precisamos da ajuda de vcs para que o parto aconteça. De um em um. Pouco em pouco. Conseguiremos atingir este valor antes da data prevista para nascimento do bebê, que é início de setembro.
