Restore Independence for 3 Spinal Cord Injury Survivors in Nigeria
In Nigeria, a spinal cord injury can mean years of complete immobility. Without specialized healthcare, assistive equipment, or public awareness, survivors are often left without even the most basic care, cut off from medical treatment and isolated by stigma that keeps their reality invisible.
The Human Baseline Initiative, in collaboration with the Dubel Disability Foundation (founded by a survivor who lived through this exact reality), is working to change that, starting with 3 survivors who need it right now.
Our Goal: ₦9.3M to Fully Stabilize 3 Survivors
Each survivor requires roughly ₦3.1M to be lifted out of crisis and given the tools to live independently again. Every donation goes toward:
- Emergency mobility & survival essentials— mattresses, wheelchairs, cushions, medical supplies, and basic self-care items to stabilize each survivor's health
- Medical treatment— including care for severe pressure ulcers (bedsores), a life-threatening complication of prolonged immobility
- Skin-integrity training— teaching survivors and caregivers how to prevent future medical complications
Every case is individually vetted before resources are deployed, so support reaches the people who need it most, as fast as possible.
This Is Just the Start
Stabilization is only the first step. Once these 3 survivors are equipped and medically stable, our plan is to keep supporting them long-term, either through continued direct support or by moving them into a sponsorship structure, where individual or corporate donors cover recurring monthly needs like accessible housing and ongoing medical upkeep. The goal is lasting independence, not a one-time gift.
Why It Matters
Dubel is actively locating and supporting 5 to 10 new survivors every month, all in urgent need of basic dignity and medical stabilization. This campaign is our starting point: 3 survivors, fully stabilized and set up for continued support, with the hope of expanding as we grow.
